HIV Development

Currently, Tibotec is developing 3 novel anti-HIV compounds:

A multidisciplinary drug development team of over 200 professionals, such as medical doctors, virologists, toxicologists, statisticians, data managers and project managers, is developing new AIDS inhibitors in order to bring these novel drugs to the patients as soon as possible.

Phase l clinical trials: The development of a drug starts with tests in a few healthy volunteers to see if it is safe to take and to find the maximum safe dose.

Phase ll clinical trials: The next step of the development process aims to find the most effective dose and to see whether the treatment is active against the disease on the short term.

Phase III clinical trials: The treatment is further tested for efficacy and safety in a larger group of people. All the data generated and analyzed during these clinical trials are compiled and submitted to the regulatory authorities (Ministries of Health) in order to obtain approval to launch the drug on the local markets.

The clinical trials are conducted with the help of patients, volunteers and physicians (investigators). The Tibotec Drug Development group works closely together with Virco for the resistance testing during the clinical trials, with J&J PRD for the clinical trials management, as well as with other laboratories and partners.
