TB Drug Development
|

A landmark collaboration between the Global Alliance for TB Drug Development (TB Alliance), a not-for-profit, product development partnership, and Tibotec was announced in 2009 to respond to the urgent need to accelerate the discovery and development of new drugs to fight tuberculosis (TB).

The two organizations will share their expertise and resources in the development of TMC207 potentially the first TB compound with a new mechanism of action in 40 years. Additionally, the organizations will collaborate toward the discovery of additional new drugs for TB.

Under the terms of the agreement, Tibotec will be responsible for the worldwide development and access of TMC207 in the treatment of multi-drug resistant TB (MDR-TB). Tibotec granted the TB Alliance a royalty-free license for the worldwide development and access of TMC207 in the field of drug-susceptible TB.

TMC207 is currently being studied in Phase II clinical trials in patients with multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB). Trials are currently running in China, Estonia, Latvia, Peru, Philippines, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey, and Ukraine. For information, please visit www.clinicaltrials.gov .
