Developing world - Our Approach

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 67 percent of the world's current 33.4 million people infected with HIV live in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) and an estimated one-third of adults are co-infected with both TB and HIV (78 percent in Africa). Seventy-four percent of sub-Saharan Africans live on less than $2 a day; 265 million go hungry every day. In these and other developing countries, treatments for opportunistic infections such oral candidiasis as well as antiretroviral therapy, are often beyond the financial means of public health systems and of most individuals. In addition, healthcare infrastructure may be inadequate or over-stretched.

Tibotec recognizes the unparalleled global challenge posed by the AIDS epidemic and our responsibility to collaborate in the international response to HIV. Collaborative partnerships and innovation are the hallmark of Tibotec's social and scientific commitment to discovering new solutions to HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases in the developing world.

A landmark collaboration between the TB Alliance and Tibotec has been announced, responding to the urgent need to accelerate the discovery and development of new drugs to fight tuberculosis (TB).
