Tibotec's Drug Discovery

Tibotec aims to discover innovative and effective drug candidates against a range of life-threatening infectious diseases. Many pathogens are notorious for their ability to mutate and become resistant to therapy. Therefore, it is vital that new drugs cope with this genetic variability and avoid the emergence of resistance. To this end, Tibotec scientists profile compounds against clinically relevant resistant pathogens from the very beginning of the discovery process, a unique strategy to tackle this issue.

A powerful cell-based high-throughput screening platform complemented with high-content recombinant viral target assays and rational drug design, has led to the discovery of some very potent anti-HIV agents. Two antiretroviral compounds (darunavir and etravirine) are currently marketed and one (TMC278) is in advanced clinical development, as are two agents against Hepatitis C (telaprevir, TMC435). The company also has an anti-tuberculosis compound from a novel class in Phase II clinical development, and several active discovery and early development programs in HIV, Hepatitis C and other life-threatening infectious diseases.
